Galatians Ch 5 and 6
Paul has established that we are no longer living under the law, but under grace. We are free from the law and all its claims. We are free! And that is the very reason that Christ set us free, so that we could simply be free! That is why he delivered us. He had a special interest in the result of His act. Freedom, this is it!! But, there are a couple of warnings:
§ 2-12. Don’t submit again to a yoke of slavery, eg, circumcision.
§ 13-15. Don’t use freedom as a pretext for evil. See also Rom. 6,7.
Vs.11, and 6:12.
Preaching ‘Christ crucified’ led to persecution, as seen in Paul’s experience. If circumcision was preached as well there would be no persecution: But adding circumcision to the gospel [as also essential for salvation] nullified the sacrifice of Christ and therefore could not be added to the gospel. This is why Paul is still persecuted.
Vs. 16-25. All the reasoning is over! Now the application! The positive application of freedom to our lives. Also Phil. 4:8.
Chapter 6.
1-5. Restore others and take care of your self! Do we tolerate sin? Eg, immorality, 5:19.
Vs. 6. The ‘job’ of preaching, pay per sermon?!
7-10. What you sow you reap, surprise, surprise. As sure as you sow a seed you will reap a crop, a crop the same as the seed.
11-18. The problem in Galatia was so urgent that he could not wait until his secretary was available.
Vs. 13. Glory, the honor resulting from a good opinion. Who holds a good opinion of whom? Glory in circumcision [the law] or glory in the cross?
Vs. 17. Pay attention, take action and don’t annoy me again. I have enough to put up with!
